San Antonio Spurs’ True Feelings on Victor Wembanyama-Trae Young Duo Amid Trade Rumors, Revealed
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

San Antonio Spurs news: Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks is one of the biggest names that is expected to be available in the trade market this summer. The Hawks are at an impasse as they consider blowing up their current roster in favor of a potential full rebuild. The fact that they now own the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft only makes a revamp even more plausible.

One team that has already been linked to Young is the San Antonio Spurs. As it turns out, however, the Spurs aren’t exactly fascinated by a potential pairing between the three-time All-Star and cornerstone superstar Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio Spurs Not Too Hot on Wembanyama-Young Pairing

According to a report by league insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Spurs won’t be moving heaven and earth to recruit Young to San Antonio. Fischer did acknowledge the fact that the Spurs are interested, but at the same time, it doesn’t sound like Young ranks highly in their list of priorities this summer:

“San Antonio personnel would be committing front-office malpractice by not contemplating the opportunity to pair a league assist leader and high-screen maestro like Young to pair with Wembanyama. The Spurs have so far approached building around Wembanyama as an intriguing experiment, where they will weigh all different kinds of variables around their Rookie of the Year. However, according to multiple league figures with knowledge of the situation, any Spurs plans of maneuvering to bring Young to San Antonio have been vastly overstated. The Spurs, sources said, have expressed little interest in obtaining Young to date,” wrote Fischer.

There’s no doubt that Atlanta will be demanding a significant trade package for any deal involving their superstar. While other teams might be willing to go all out for the 6-foot-1 point guard, it seems that the Spurs would much rather spend their money elsewhere.
